Team Effort for 50 Years: Interflex stands as a solution provider for its own hardware and software products, as well as its own service and consulting sales.
Flexible working hours, work-life balance, and home office are now indispensable. Fifty years ago, things were different. One who recognized the value of flexitime for companies and employees early on was Wilhelm “Willi” Haller. As an expert in “flexible working hours,” he wanted people to have more control over their time and to go to work whenever they wanted. To realize his idea, he founded the company Interflex 50 years ago on July 9, 1974, in Durchhausen, Baden-Württemberg. The foundation of the new company was laid with an electromechanical time switch for time tracking.
Interflex grew quickly and secured its first major international contracts. Today, its customers include companies from various industries, from automotive and public service to critical infrastructure. Some of these business relationships have now existed for more than 25 years. Through the merger with long-term business partner Interlock Sicherheitssysteme GmbH in 1986, Interflex expanded its portfolio to include access control solutions. Both companies relied on a patented infrared card reader developed by Interflex. In the early 2000s, the company became more international – since 2013, Interflex has been part of the international Allegion group.

Representatives from local and specialized media were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the production and development site in Durchhausen during a tour.
“From the very beginning, Interflex has been committed to providing customers with tailored solutions for their needs and developing them further together,” said Bernhard Sommer, who has been the managing director of Interflex since 2019. “New technologies and close communication with our customers are part of our DNA. Back then, we learned to use current technological developments for our solutions. Today, we have a broad range of expertise: from our own hardware to a central software platform to in-house services, where we guide customers from choosing the right solution to implementation and maintenance.”

More than ever, today’s working world will be about relieving valuable skilled workers and strengthening their responsibility with efficient solutions – while taking their individual life situations into account in terms of New Work. Therefore, Interflex will continue to focus on customer-oriented development and consulting in the future. An important role will be played by the trend towards collaboration tools in workforce management and the digitization of HR processes, in order to optimally involve employees in work time planning and promote participation.
Physical security will also become more relevant in the future. Against the backdrop of current legal frameworks, security must be viewed more holistically as a mix of digital and physical protection measures. In product development, Interflex will continue to support many customers’ desire for connected access control and system integration in building and security management systems, while simultaneously investing in the expansion of cloud services.
