Biometric access control terminals
Biometric identification methods significantly enhance the security of your company. Unlike traditional identification systems, biometric terminals do not use PINs or ID cards but rely on the biometric features of authorized individuals.
They identify a person uniquely by fingerprints, veins, iris, or facial recognition. A PIN or RFID card can be used additionally for verification in biometric systems. These solutions integrate seamlessly into your IT structures and the IF-6040 access control system.
Biometric Terminals
Unlike a PIN or ID card, biometric features of the human body cannot be forgotten, misplaced, or intentionally or unintentionally passed on. This makes the corresponding identification methods more secure. Biometric methods usefully complement or replace conventional identification methods such as PIN or RFID.
Identification using individual physical characteristics such as fingerprints or veins takes place in two steps: first, during enrollment, a person’s features are recorded and stored as a reference. Later, when the person wishes to authenticate at a terminal, the biometric features are captured again and compared to the stored reference. If enough features match, the person is considered authenticated. In addition, software checks the captured biometric features for tampering to prevent unauthorized access. The image quality and stability of the initial capture are critical for future identification performance. The higher the image quality, the better the identification – making the choice of sensor essential for success.
We only offer what we consider the most reliable and innovative biometric terminals from our partners, such as products from TBS Touchless Biometric Systems AG and PCS Systemtechnik GmbH. This gives you the benefit of state-of-the-art integrated solutions.
The various biometric methods and user features, as well as the individual terminals, are centrally managed via the IF-6040 software solution. In its latest version, our system supports the TBS Biomanager Enterprise R20 for managing users and devices. Thanks to seamless integration, capturing and managing biometric data can be handled entirely remotely via IF-6040, allowing biometric features to be recorded directly at the TBS terminal on site. The physical presence of an operator or administrator is no longer necessary. The new remote enrollment method is supported by the latest generation of devices, including 2D SENSE, 2D IRON, 3D AIR, 3D LIGHT and the latest model 3D FLASH+.
2D Fingerprint Recognition
2D fingerprint recognition at the biometric terminal offers high security upon contact. The terminal provides access control and time recording. Optionally, multi-factor authentication by combining fingerprint and PIN adds extra security. This method is cost-effective, user-friendly, and reliable – a widely tested standard that offers good identification for smaller groups of up to around 1,000 people. For exceptions, PIN or RFID badges may be used.
For medium and large user groups (1,000 to 5,000 people) and high security needs, multispectral 2D recognition is suitable. It is significantly less expensive than iris, vein, or facial recognition and works even with dirty fingers, harsh environments, and beneath the skin.
Touchless 3D Fingerprint Recognition
Maximum security is provided by three-dimensional, touchless fingerprint recognition at the biometric terminal. This also handles access control and time recording. Multi-factor authentication is possible with fingerprint, PIN, and RFID. Liveness detection adds an extra security layer. As the terminal is not touched, this method meets hygiene standards. It offers excellent performance even for large groups of up to 10,000 users and is more cost-effective than iris, vein, or facial recognition.
Iris Recognition
Iris recognition delivers the highest level of security. It enables both access control and time recording. The contactless nature of the scan makes it hygienically compliant. The security level is comparable to hand vein scanning. It’s suitable for very large groups of up to 10,000 users. Optional multi-factor authentication using iris, PIN, and RFID is available.
Touchless Hand Vein Recognition
Maximum security for access control is ensured by touchless hand vein recognition using PalmSecure technology. This method works by the infrared absorption of venous blood. The sensor illuminates the hand with infrared light, capturing the personal vein pattern. It can identify groups of up to 1,000 users. Its security level is comparable to iris recognition. Optional multi-factor authentication using hand veins, RFID badge, and PIN is available. Liveness detection adds extra protection. The hygienic, contact-free design supports safe use.
