Stadtwerke München (SWM) supplies millions of people daily with electricity, gas, water, and mobility - while protecting a complex infrastructure with hundreds of sites. To meet high security requirements, they partnered with Interflex to develop an innovative access and visitor management solution that sets new standards.

For SWM, security is not a “nice-to-have” but a core responsibility: around 11,000 employees and 10,000 external service providers require controlled access to sensitive areas – from operational yards to power generation facilities. “A reliable and flexibly expandable solution is crucial for us to meet the security needs of our various sites,” explains Mike Busse, Product and System Manager for Security Technology at SWM.

Interflex designed the security concept and implemented it with an experienced partner: the multifunctional self-service kiosks from friendlyway now enable automated visitor registration. Visitors receive a personalized QR code in advance, which they use on-site to check in independently, verify their identity via ID document, and receive access permissions – all without waiting at reception.

“We now have a custom, multifunctional, and above all smart solution,” summarizes Mike Busse. “The flexibility of Interflex and the open interface for in-house development from friendlyway allow us to implement every use case we envisioned.”

At the heart of the solution is the Interflex platform IF-6040, which serves as a central “data hub” managing all badges, access points, and visitor data – around 31,000 badges, including 2,500 vehicles and 800 pre-registered visitors. The platform integrates seamlessly with existing systems like SAP and controls not only access but also intrusion detection systems and biometric two-factor authentication.
Thanks to the new solution, Stadtwerke München can significantly enhance security, streamline processes, and reduce administrative effort. The precise control of visitor flows even enables rapid evacuation in emergencies. “For us, this is a major step forward – security, efficiency, and user-friendliness in one system,” says Busse.

The long-standing partnership with Interflex is paying off: “What I particularly value is the proactive consulting and the trusting relationship. This allowed us to tailor the solution perfectly to our needs and implement it successfully,” adds Busse.

With the new access and visitor management solution, Stadtwerke München is well equipped to continue meeting the highest security standards as a critical infrastructure provider – while also making everyday operations noticeably easier for employees and visitors alike.
